Trekthis Out returns with more tidbits from around the Star Trek Universe including upcoming William Shatner, Kate Mulgrew and Nichelle Nichols at Galaxy Con events, the Picard UK Blu-ray release and more.
As you may or may not know, we here at Trekthis.co.uk collate a bunch of news and information relating to Star Trek that we feel do not justify whole articles so we put them together in one collection for your convenience.
Galaxy Con is an evolution of an events company that previously run large scale conventions catering for between 20,000 and 50,000 people who have now branched out into an online virtual property. This gives fans the opportunity to watch Q&A sessions with actors from their favorite franchises and if they have a spare few quid, can pay for 1-1 video chats and autographed merchandise. The best thing about the Q&A segments, however, is that they are 100% free. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world either, as long as you work out the time zones you can access these amazing events.
What is also great about Galaxy Con is that they have a lot of Star Trek guests who participate on a regular basis. Over the past couple of months, I have seen cast members from TNG in Jonathan Frakes, John De Lancie, Brent Spiner and Marina Sirtis as well as Captain Kirk himself William Shatner. There are lot of people online watching these Q&A sessions and you do have opportunities to ask questions but the chances of them being actually being put forward are pretty slim, still, it’s a good way to get some behind the scenes gossip, anecdotes and stories.
In December, we get more Star Trek at Galaxy Con as on the 5th December William Shatner AND Kate Mulgrew will be participating in the Captains of Star Trek virtual Experience. For UK readers it will start at 7pm GMT. Then, on the 12th December we will get the rare opportunity to see Nichelle Nichols aka Uhura. This will be starting on 8pm for UK audiences. (we have also added links in our Events section to the right of the site)
To give you an idea of what to expect, here is one of the Q&A sessions with the Deep Space Nine Cast recorded back in September.
Inside Star Trek
This is great. I saw this via a Twitter feed and I just had to share it. In July 1976 Gene Roddenberry invited several guests including William Shatner, DeForest Kelley and Mark Lenard to record the ‘Inside Star Trek’ album. A compliation of interviews, music and some behind the scenes tidbits. Its well worth a listen and a great insight for any Star Trek fan

Star Trek Picard Season 1 – UK Pre-Order Blu-ray
What will be a year after it streamed on Amazon in the UK, Picard season 1 finally finds it way to Blu-ray and is available now for a pre-order as its due to release in January on the 25th.
15 years after Captain Jean-Luc Picard retired from Starfleet, Patrick Stewart is back to reprise his iconic role. After the destruction of the Planet Romulus, we follow Picard as he tracks down a series of mysteries about his past. From co-creators Alex Kurtzman, Pulitzer Prize winning author Michael Chabon, OSCAR winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind), and renowned Star Trek novelist Kirsten Beyer, STAR TREK: PICARD sets out on a new adventure against a legion of dangerous foes, with the help from a few returning characters – Data, Riker, and Seven of Nine – and a whole new crew.
This is a fun video we actually shared on our Facebook page but its just too funny not to include in here as well. Brentwood started life in 2018 when Brent Spiner of TNT/Data fame made a short musical pilot in which he played a fictionized version of himself trying to make it as drama teacher while trying his best to leave his TNG days behind him. Of course this doesn’t work out. In a funny twist, his nemesis is Levar Burton, best friend on TNG but foe in Brentwood. Below is the synopsis.
Brent Spiner made his name as iconic android Data on “Star Trek,” but he’s retreated from public life in Hollywood. He’s been teaching acting at Cal State Fullerton, but when he’s up for an award for his work on the show that made him famous, he mulls over a comeback, though he’s reluctant to dive back in. It’s a whole new Hollywood, complete with TMZ and hashtags, and Spiner isn’t sure it’s for him.
But when his old nemesis LeVar Burton commits to the awards show, Spiner decides to jump back into Hollywood. As he makes the rounds and re-enters in the industry, he finds himself embroiled in the old feud that plagued him during the height of his fame — and it’s still bitter enough to possibly derail his re-entry into Hollywood.
